25,000 Visit Photo Tribute American War Cemetery in the Netherlands

The Faces of Margraten tribute at the Netherlands American War Cemetery and Memorial has been visited by 25,000 people, according to the Stichting Verenigde Adoptanten Amerikaanse Oorlogsgraven (Foundation United Adopters American War Graves), which organized the tribute. From May 2-5, when the Netherlands commemorated and celebrated the 70th anniversary of its liberation, more than 3,000 graves and names on the Walls of the Missing were decorated with a personal photo of the soldier buried or memorialized there.

Program The Faces of Margraten May 2-5

From May 2-5, 2015, thousands of graves and names on the Walls of the Missing at the American War Cemetery in Margraten, the Netherlands will be decorated with a personal photo of the soldier buried or memorialized there. In this way, our U.S. liberators will be given a face 70 years after the end of World War II. The first information about the program for these days can be found on this page. The photos tell the stories of the mostly young men and women who laid down their lives for our freedom. But these photos also tell the stories of those left behind at home, who would never see their loved-ones again. After all, the soldiers buried here were not just soldiers. Now 70 years after the war, they will be given a face.

Deadline submission photos on April 19

The deadline for the submission of photos for The Faces of Margraten tribute has been set on April 19. Photos that will be submitted afterwards cannot be included in the tribute in time and thus will not be put at display during the tribute at the cemetery from May 2-5 this year. The Stichting Verenigde Adoptanten Amerikaanse Oorlogsgraven (Foundation United Adopters American War Graves) encourages everyone who has a photo of a U.S. WWII soldier buried or memorialized in Margraten, the Netherlands to submit the photo as soon as possible.

Impression photo displays

The Stichting Verenigde Adoptanten Amerikaanse Oorlogsgraven (Foundation United Adopters American War Graves) has recently revealed the design for the photo displays that will be used during The Faces of Margraten tribute. The tribute, which will take place at the American War Cemetery in Margraten, the Netherlands, will put a face to the names of more than 3,000 of the more than 10,000 American soldiers who have been either buried in or memorialized at the cemetery. The soldiers buried or memorialized there lost their lives during World War II. Through the tribute, the foundation will honor the sacrifices made by these soldiers for the freedom of others.

The Netherlands to Give a Face to 10,000 Killed U.S. WWII Soldiers

Thousands of white marble crosses and Stars of David, row after row. This is what one sees when overlooking the American War Cemetery in the town of Margraten, the Netherlands. The markers are testimony to the sacrifices made by many young American men and women for the freedom of Europe during World War II.. Through The Faces of Margraten project in May 2015 the Dutch will pay special tribute to these soldiers by decorating their more than 10,000 graves and names on the Walls of the Missing with personal photos of the soldiers. The project has started a quest to locate more soldiers' photos.
